The beginning of a new era?

GMA 7 called its partnership with ABS-CBN "historic" as they ink an agreement for the former's authority to air Star Cinema movies. The rare occasion also signals the potential for a broader partnership between the two networks.

The virtual signing was attended by GMA 7 executives namely Gilberto Duavit Jr., Philip Yalung, Annette Gozon Valdes and Joey Abacan. Top executives from ABS-CBN included Carlo Katigbak, Mark Lopez, Cory Vidanes and Ricardo Tan Jr.

Every storyteller's dream is to have as many people as possible experience their creations and now because of the kindness of our friends at GMA, we have the special opportunity to bring our Kapamilya stories to a new audience, said ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak.

We hope the Kapusos find joy and inspiration in viewing our Star Cinema movies and we also look forward to a new year of friendship and cooperation within our small industry. Maraming salamat kay chairman Gozon, Jimmy, Philip, Joel, Annette, and all our friends at GMA for making this partnership happen, he added.

The agreement also marks a new chapter in ABS-CBN Films Star Cinema which was founded in 1993. It holds one of the richest movie libraries in the country, featuring works that have made many Kapamilya happy and inspired.

We are pleased because the significance of our partnership today ushers in possibilities of a far broader set of conversations for potential partnerships and cooperation that will be mutually beneficial not only to ABS-CBN and GMA but more important for the benefit of the public we both serve -- the Filipino viewer, GMA's president and COO Gilberto Duavit Jr. said.

Star Cinema movies are set to air on the local channels of GMA Network starting this April. The roster includes favorite global blockbusters such as "Hello, Love, Goodbye" starring Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo, "It Take a Man and a Woman" with John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, and "My Ex & Whys" top-billed by Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano and more.

Congratulations, ABS-CBN and GMA 7 for the historic deal!
