Ookla: Globe's 5G speed now 3x faster than WiFi speed

Globe Telecom's 5G speed is now delivering three times faster than WiFi, data from Ookla showed.

Globe 5G provides a faster internet connection

According to Ookla's Speedtest Intelligence report covering the first three months of 2022, the telco giant logged a 5G median download speed of 121.29 Mbps, higher than the 42.95 Mbps booked by all fixed providers.

Ookla used Hsu's Multiple Comparisons with the Best procedure to measure Globe's 5G median download speeds versus mobile WiFi speeds.

Its top official reiterated that this is the result of the group's continuous investments in network upgrades and buildup.

We realize that our customers' needs have changed and we are there to meet these changes in a big way. For us to do this, we continue to invest in the latest mobile technologies like 5G, said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

For this year, Globe is keeping its massive investment reaching PHP 89 billion to finance its network expansion.

In 2021, Globe built 1,407 new cell sites, while some 22,300 mobile sites were upgraded. It also fired up over 2,000 5G outdoor sites and in-building solutions.
