SpaceX to roll out services this June?
In an interview with ANC, Trade Chief Ramon Lopez said the US-based company has already submitted documents for its registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It seeks to establish a local Filipino entity that will be its wholly-owned subsidiary.
SpaceX is now focusing on securing permits from the National Telecommunications Commission, the official said.
They intend to start operations, at least the first of the 3 gateways, before the end of June 30, before the end of the term of President Duterte. They will start the use of their low earth orbit satellites and then the gateways are essential to capture the signals from the LEOs and pass it on to consumers or link it up to telcos in the country, Lopez said.
It was in late March when Lopez bared SpaceX's plan to enter the local market, making the Philippines the first in Southeast Asia to avail of such technology that will bring high-speed satellite broadband connectivity to consumers.
SpaceX's decision comes as President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law a measure amending Public Service Act (PSA), which allows 100 percent foreign ownership.
