AMD unveils Ryzen 7000 series CPUs

AMD finally launched the highly anticipated Ryzen 7000 series processors which are built with 5nm lithography and Zen 4 architecture.

The lineup starts with Ryzen 5 7600X, it has 6 cores and 12 threads, with a base frequency of 4.7GHz which can go up to 5.3GHz. It also has a 38MB cache and a power draw of 105W.

AMD claims this is faster than Intel's Core i9 12900K by 11 percent and should deliver a 5 percent average gaming performance on a 1080p resolution.

Up next will be the Ryzen 7 7700X, this processor uses 8 cores and 16 threads with a 4.5GHz base frequency and can be boosted up to 5.4GHz. The total cache is increased to 40MB and draws a similar 105W power.
Ryzen 9 7900X

The 3rd CPU will be the Ryzen 9 7900X, based on its numbers this will be an even more powerful chip with 12 cores and 24 threads. The base clock speed is 4.7GHz and increases up to 5.6GHz. Its total cache was significantly upped to 76MB and will consume more electricity with 170W.

The Ryzen 9 7950X will be AMD's flagship contender.  This will also be the most powerful among the group with its 16 cores and 32 threads configuration. It has a 4.5GHz base clock and can reach a maximum of 5.7GHz. The total cache will be 80 and has 170W TDP.

According to AMD, the 7950X has 57 percent better performance in content creation using V-Ray Render versus the competition. It also has 15 percent more power in gaming in select titles and is 47 percent more power efficient.

All new CPUs mentioned also has PCIe Gen 5 support and are compatible with the newly released AM5 socket motherboards which have dual-channel DDR5 memory and 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes. One of its main highlights is the ability to switch from PGA to an LGA-based socket. The 1718-pin LGA socket on it will allow up to 230W of power delivery capacity.

The motherboard lineup comprises X670, and B650 models and their extreme versions.

AMD says the new chipset, along with the X670E and X670 motherboards, will be available globally on September 27, 2022.
