Meta teamed up with Qualcomm to create VR chipsets

The Meta Quest platform will be powered by Snapdragon XR platforms and technologies. The companies collaborated to create cutting-edge VR innovations for over 7 years including the Meta Quest 2. The two companies will continue to collaborate to produce top-notch products and experiences in the future that will be supported by VR platforms. The patent deal between Qualcomm and Samsung was recently extended until 2030.

One of the longest-running partnerships in the sector, Meta's partnership with Qualcomm has lasted seven years. The first standalone VR headset from Meta, Oculus Go, was built with a chipset from Qualcomm. Meta’s Oculus Go featured the Snapdragon 821 mobile processor for its seated VR experience.

In order to provide room-scale VR and higher fidelity, Meta also employed the Snapdragon 835 in the first Oculus Quest. The Quest 2, which employs Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2 technology and has sold millions of units, is built and improved upon the first Oculus Quest. Snapdragon is used in Meta's wearable, which was created in collaboration with Luxottica Ray Ban Stories.
