Smart to roll out platform for SIM registration

According to Atty. Roy Ibay, vice president and head of Regulatory of Smart, the company participated in the crafting of the implementing rules and regulations, ensuring that it would be inclusive to every Filipino, including persons with disabilities, senior citizens, pregnant women, and/or persons with special needs.

We join the National Telecommunications Commission, key regulators and government agencies, and our counterparts in other PTEs in ensuring the orderly and effective implementation of our SIM Registration Law, Ibay said.

Francis E. Flores, SVP and head of Consumer Business Group - Individual at Smart, also stressed the crucial role of providing quality connectivity to support the Philippines' economic recovery.

In October, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. signed the measure seeking for the mandatory registration of SIM cards. The measure was envisioned to stomp out the rise of text scams.

We are ready to roll out our SIM Registration processes after months of preparations, which have included, among others, studying best global practices and technology solutions from other countries that have already implemented SIM registration. We will release more information about the SIM registration portal via our official channels in the next few weeks, Flores said.

Smart reiterated its heightened efforts to protect its millions of subscribers from cybercriminals.
