Value for money full-frame mirrorless?

Panasonic has brought the most requested feature to their next-generation S5 series full-frame cameras. The new cameras come with a new 24.2MP 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with Phase Detect Autofocus (PDAF). It is paired with a new imaging engine that was co-developed under the L2 Technology alliance that Panasonic and Leica entered last year.

The Japanese manufacturer has decided to release the camera in two versions: the S5II and the S5IIX. The reason for this is that there are some highly specialized video features on the S5IIX that are not necessarily needed by a majority of users.

Both cameras come with dual native ISO and offer Five-axis sensor stabilization. Together with the IBIS, the Two-Axis Lens OIS can achieve 6.5 stops of stabilization.

At the back of the camera is the 3.680K-dot OLED live viewfinder. Below that is the 1.830K-dot 3-inch "free-angle" touch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Beside it is the new eight-direction joystick.

On the side of the camera is an HDMI Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, a 3.5mm stereo microphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It can connect wirelessly thru WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0.

Photos and Video footage is sent to the dual UHS-II card slots.

Both cameras are capable of recording up to 4:2:0 10-bit 6K (3:2), 5.9K (16:9), and 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K recording. This is thanks to the new heat-dispersion system that uses a small fan and a high-efficiency heat sink that allows the camera to record with no limit in 4K. Both cameras are also capable of recording 14+ stop V-Log/V-Gamut to enable high dynamic range and broad colors.

Only the S5IIX is capable of RAW video out and All-Intra, ProRes recording onto the attached to a USB-C SSD. It also comes with wired and wireless IP streaming function and USB-tethering.
