AMD announces a series of processors for the next generation of handheld gaming consoles.
The new chips are divided into two models namely the Ryzen Z1 and the Z1 Extreme both of which are based on 4nm Ryzen Zen 4 architecture and sports RDNA 3 GPUs.
AMD says both are exclusive to ASUS for the time being however, other heard manufacturers may join later.
Moving to the specifications, the Z1 variant has six core Zen 4 CPU with 12 threads while the iGPU has 4x RDNA 3 cores. It has 22MB total cache on board while the brand claims the Z1 can do 2.8 teraflops of graphics performance.
Meanwhile, the Z1 Extreme variant has eight core Zen 4 CPUs and sixteen threads. While the iGPU has 12 RDNA 3 cores with 24MB cache.
In terms of graphical performance, it can do 8.6 or 3x the vanilla Z1's performance.
As for gaming, you may view AMD's graph below for the popular title running at 1080p resolution and low settings.
Moreover, the chips support USB-4 for ports, LPDDR5, and LPDDR5X memory. The brand also claimed they will also bring the AMD Radeon Super Resolution upscaling, Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, and AMD Link as well.
AMD also stated that the ROG Ally will be offered in both Z1 chipset options. As for the price of the handheld console, The Verge leaked it will cost USD 699.99 or around PHP 38.9K if converted directly without tax and duties yet.
Since the pricing is unofficial for now, you may take it with a grain of salt.
