OPPO recently invited us to visit their factory in Shenzen, China where we got to witness the production line of the new OPPO N2 Flip.

OPPO wants to be known for its quality!

During our visit, we saw the various quality control tests their smartphones undergo before it reaches the consumer's hands.

In this article, let's discover the different tests and how the OPPO Find N2 Flip survived each one thru my written recollection of what we observed in its factory.

Upon arrival, we were asked to not bring our smartphones or our camera equipment. The photos in this article were provided by OPPO. We underwent sanitary procedures and wear outer garments.

We were then led to the OPPO N2 Flip's production line. It was immediately apparent, that the OPPO N2 Flip's line is several meters longer than a traditional smartphone's production line as there are more steps during the assembly of the phone. From there each step of the assembly was shown and explained to us.  One step in particular that caught our eye is the assembly of the camera and its calibration.

On a previous visit years ago, we witnessed smartphones undergoing several variations of drop tests, tumbling barrel tests, plug and unplug tests, twist tests, button tests, USB Bending tests, Soft Press tests, Spray tests, UV tests, and sweat tests.

But before we get to that, let's discuss a little bit about what makes the OPPO N2 Flip fold. It features the latest version of the Flexion hinge which has been streamlined to the point where it is smaller, lightweight, and more reliable while having fewer parts. It is crafted of aircraft-grade aluminum for its durability while the rubber pads are placed around it to prevent debris from entering the hinge. It also allows the screen to fold in a water drop shape which helps in reducing the crease.

But because of the nature of folding phones, OPPO has introduced several new tests that cater to folding phones. These include the standard folding test and the folding test in extremely high and low temperatures.

The folding test folds and unfolds the sample device over 400,000 times to check the phone's durability, reliability, and screen crease appearance.

It will also undergo the Waterproofing test. OPPO says that the OPPO N2 Flip is supposedly IPX4 water resistant but does not have an official IP rating to save on cost as the certification itself would have increased the price of the phone.

OPPO's new test is the Folding test in high and low temperatures. It is similar to the previous folding test but the sample device will be folded and unfolded up to 100,000 times in a chamber that is set to 50 degrees Celsius and -20 degrees Celsius.

Overall, after seeing the production line and the Quality Engineer Reliability Lab, we were reassured that OPPO has taken the time and effort to make sure their products are of quality in design, build, and durability.
