It is one of the few smartphones with an IP rating priced at only PHP 8,999.

Build Quality/Design
|
Rear design |
The build of the phone is surprisingly polished and premium-looking for a smartphone priced under PHP 10K. The phone is made of a glass front and a single polycarbonate back that also acts as a structural frame.
Premium-looking for a sub-PHP 10K phone!
At the back is a unique glitter-like design with two large camera bumps with an LED flash and vivo branding. Around the camera bumps are gold colored polycarbonate trimming.
|
vivo Y27's screen |
In front is the 6.64-inch curved IPS screen with a 2,388 x 1,080 resolution. Around the panel are somewhat thin top and side bezels with a thicker chin bezel. There is a notch too.
|
Top and bottom |
On top is the SIM tray while at the bottom are the speaker grills, USB-C port, microphone port and 3.5mm audio jack.
|
vivo Y27's sim tray |
The SIM tray accommodates up to two nano SIM cards and one microSD card. It has a red rubber gasket which allows for its IP54 water and dust resistance rating.
|
Left and right sides |
On the left side is a smooth surface while on the right side are the polycarbonate volume rocker and fingerprint scanner/power button. These buttons have a plastic-y but surprisingly satisfying feel when pressed.
|
Rear cameras |
At the back of the phone is the 50MP f/1.8 main camera with PDAF and the 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor with an LED flash. It features a high-performance Aspheric lens. While in front is an 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera. Both front and rear cameras can capture up to 1080p at 30fps.
Aside from that, the camera app features the following modes: Photo, Video, Night, Portrait, Pro, 50MP, Pano, Documents, Slo-Mo, Time-lapse, and Live Photo
The Pro mode allows for control of ISO (100-3200), Shutter Speed (1/12000 to 32 secs), EV (+- 3), focus, and white balance. Only the main rear camera can use the Pro mode.
Other key features of the phone include WiFi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, Galileo, and GLONASS.

Websurfing on the vivo Y27 |
We are excited to see IP54-rated smartphones for under PHP 10K and it even has a fast 44W charging tech.
Hopefully, the phone's other key features like the 6GB RAM, Extended RAM, microSD card expansion, 50MP rear camera, and 5,000mAh battery perform as advertised.
Our only concern is its MediaTek Helio G85 is not as fast as the competition. While its 6.64-inch screen comes with a sharp-enough FHD+ resolution, it isn't high-refresh-rate like most similarly priced handsets.
But so far, our initial impression of the vivo Y27 is quite positive.
What do you guys think?
