New Pixel phones arrive!

After months of leaks, the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are now official. 

The first of the two variants features a 6.2-inch AMOLED screen with a 2400 x 1080 resolution, a 2000 nits peak brightness, and a 60/120Hz refresh rate. It is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protected. Under the panel is the In-Display fingerprint scanner.

Inside is the Google Tensor G3 processor, Titan M2 security chip, 8GB LPDDR5X RAM, 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 storage, dual SIM (nano+eSIM), and a 4,575mAh battery with 27W wired fast charging, and 18W wireless charging.

At the back is the 50MP f/1.68 main camera with 1/1.3-inch Samsung GN2 sensor and LDAF, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera with Sony IMX386 sensor, macro option and LED flash. It supports 10-bit HDR recording, 8X zoom, and 4K at 60fps.

In front is the 10.5MP selfie camera with a Samsung 3J1 sensor with 4K at 60fps recording and face unlock.

The Pixel 8 measures 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9mm and weighs 187 grams and will come in either Obsidian, Hazel, or Rose colorways.

Up next is the Pro variant. It comes with a larger 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a 2992 x 1344 resolution, a 1-120Hz refresh rate, and a 2,400 nits peak brightness. It is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protected. Under the panel is the In-Display fingerprint scanner.

Inside is the same Tensor 3 chip and Titan M2 security chip. Alongside are 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, 128GB/256GB/512GB/1TB (US only) UFS 3.1 storage, dual SIM (nano+eSIM), and 5,050mAh battery with 30W wired fast charging, 23W wireless charging.

At the back are the 50MP f/1.68 main camera with 1/1.3-inch Samsung GN2 sensor and LDAF, 48MP f/1.95 125-degree ultra-wide camera with macro option, and a 48MP f/2.8 5x telephoto camera with Samsung GM5 sensor and 30x digital zoom. It supports 10-bit HDR recording, Cinematic Blur, and 4K at 60 fps recording.

The Pixel 8 Pro measures 162.6 x 76.5 x 8.8mm and weighs 213 grams. It will come in either Obsidian, Porcelain, or Bay colorways.

Other features of both phones include IP68 water and dust resistance, stereo speakers, 5G, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.3 LE, GPS, USB-C 3.2, and NFC.

What is game-changing is that Google promises 7 years of OS updates for both phones.

Both variants are now up for pre-order in the United States and select other countries. There is no word on availability and pricing for the Philippines.
