It came in a familiar box like the rest of its siblings you can see White colors all around, the phone's render is found at the center, and then you can notice the brand name on the sides.

Once you remove the top box, you'll see the handset itself, the typical USB-C cable, 35W power brick, TPU transparent case, SIM injector pin, documents for warranty, and a quick guide.

Build Quality/Design

Upon getting our hands on it, we noticed it has a glass-looking material at the back with a flowing streaming water effect which adds more elegance. HONOR calls this the "Flowing Silver colorway" which is the the cherry on top among its color selections. To add, it also reminded us of the hit mid-range HONOR 90 Peacock Blue Edition.

When you twist the device, you will notice changing colors from rainbow-like to sky-blue appearance along with glittery effects when light hits the back panel.

Since it has some glasstic material, it can accumulate fingerprint smudges. Fortunately, you can use the transparent case to avoid that while still flaunting the design.

In case you prefer a less fancy color option, there's Emerald Green and Midnight Black with a matte finish.

Facing it upward, it uses a 6.8-inch TFT LCD panel with Full HD+ 2412 x 1080 resolution at 394 ppi and 90Hz refresh rate. It also has 16.7 million colors, a 20:09 aspect ratio, and supports up to 10 multi-touch.

Despite using a TFT panel, it doesn't feel like one. We are getting decent viewing angles here and is closer to an IPS feel.

The screen shows fairly accurate colors and is pleasant to look at whenever we stream videos on YouTube or simply just by scrolling around. But of course, don't expect it to be as poppy and crisp as an AMOLED panel.

Another worth pointing out is its 850 nits peak brightness which is high for an entry-level phone already as most have around 500 nits only. This also makes it usable under direct sunlight especially when you need a quick look for your messages or notifications.

The cameras

Moving to the cameras, HONOR boasts its 108MP primary shooter is capable of producing high-quality shots. That main camera is accompanied by a 5MP ultra-wide-angle with depth capability + 2MP macro helper + LED flash.

Of course, we will have to put those claims to the test and then you can judge the phone's camera prowess. Let's see below.

Our first camera samples showed that you can obtain well-detailed shots as long as you do it in properly lit situations. The colors and contrast are right, and it has an acceptable dynamic range.

When utilizing the ultra-wide mode, we noticed that the colors get washed with visible noise, it gets darker with lesser details, and dynamic range in both outdoor and indoor situations.

In indoor situations, it is also capable of getting shots with good details and color accuracy. Our food shots also looked okay with good textures which can be ideal for your social media stories.

For low light, this you where you will see the camera struggle. Fortunately, there's a night model which allows us to take brighter photos. But of course, expect some noise around the images. If you choose the ultra-wide again here it looks worse with more grains and noises.

For selfies, it does an acceptable job enough to provide clear photos for your daily social media posts.

As of the moment

At PHP 8,999 HONOR X7b offers valiant battery life that can go the distance. In addition, it has an attractive elegant design that may catch attention, a decent display, a main 108MP cam, and big 256GB storage. Although the chipset choice for this is not the best performer in its price range.

For now, we will test this for a couple more days before we give you our final verdict.

Stay tuned as we will let you know once the full review is up.

What do you guys think?
