Meet the APC Back-UPS Connect

Over the years, we have innovated and created technologies that have made life easier. As our reliance on digital devices and infrastructure grows, so does the electricity demand, and we need to connect to the grid and the internet always.

Unfortunately, several factors affecting the electrical grid including severe weather conditions, equipment failure, grid overload, and planned maintenance can result in abrupt disruption of daily life, safety risks, and economic consequences.

When these power interruptions do occur for whatever reason, productivity is at risk of data corruption and hardware damage. These could all lead to loss of work and valuable time.

The increasing power needs of modern technology coupled with the challenges posed by electrical power interruptions highlight the importance of uninterruptible power supplies or UPS. Especially now that more and more households are subscribed to a fiber optic internet connection that requires a modem that is consistently connected to a power outlet to offer both telephone and internet services.

During the recent monsoon rain season, our neighborhood was affected by flash floods which made it dangerous to keep the power on. The local electrical power provider decided to turn off the power to prevent further unwanted outcomes. We were essentially out of power for 24 hours.

One of the things that made those 24 hours bearable was that our PLDT Fiber modem and TP-Link home Mesh network were attached to a UPS. This meant that the first four hours of the power outage, we still had access to the telephone and the internet.

The new APC Back-UPS Connect aims to answer the solution above in a more compact and affordable form factor. This means we can have multiple UPS for each WiFi Mesh modem in the house too.

The APC Back-UPS Connect looks like a small kitchen scale that you would find in your grandmother's kitchen. It measures 99 x 25 x 109 mm and weighs 300g.  It is slim and minimal too.

Quick thoughts

In our short experience with the Schneider Electric APC Back-UPS Connect Uninterruptible Power Supply, we found it to be a necessity for productivity that requires an internet connection.

Aside from the benefits of safety and peace of mind, we loved how easy it was to use. The controls and the menu are intuitive and easy to learn. It is the epitome of plug-and-play.

We like that it gives up to a 4-hour window to allow businesses and workers to prepare and back up their work and the like.

The one concern we had is that it takes 9 hours to charge.

Overall, we highly recommend the APC Back-UPS Connect for businesses, workers, and families who are in a situation where they need to be constantly connected to their local networks and the internet.

Again the UPS is priced at only PHP 2,790 in the Philippines and is now available from Schneider Electric's flagship Shopee and Lazada stores.
