HUAWEI Mate XT Ultimate Design launched as world's 1st Tri-fold smartphone

After several teasers, HUAWEI finally revealed the Mate XT Ultimate Design as the only tri-fold smartphone in the world.

HUAWEI's technological marvel challenges the iPhone 16 Series

This device features a 6.4-inch FHD+ screen when folded, expands to a 7.9-inch 2K display when opened halfway, and becomes a full 10.2-inch tablet with a 3K resolution when fully unfolded. Remarkably, it is only 3.6mm thick when fully opened.

With that thin measurement, it can be regarded as the world's thinnest foldable phone yet beating HONOR Magic V3 with a 4.35mm size.

Tri-fold appearance

This device features an LTPO OLED screen with 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and a maximum touch sampling rate of 240 Hz. The screen is constructed from multi-directional bending flexible materials, offering a 2 percent better bend resistance compared to conventional foldables. According to HUAWEI, the inner fold is designed to resist compression, while the outer fold is built to withstand tension.

Incredibly thin tri-fold

HUAWEI noted they used a composite ultra-tough laminated structure that incorporates non-Newtonian fluid and the largest UTG glass in the industry, which offers double the impact resistance and ensures dependable protection.

The trifold's screen

Unfortunately, HUAWEI did not disclose the chip being used here. But it is equipped with 16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB storage.

For battery, it has a 5,600mAh size with 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. Keep in mind that despite its large capacity, this measures 1.9mm thin only making it a world record holder for having huge battery capacity and slim design.

When it comes to the cameras, it uses XMAGE imaging with a 50MP f/1.56-inch sensor with variable aperture (f/1.4 to f/4.0) + 12MP ultra-wide angle + 12MP 5.5x periscope sensor. Meanwhile, there's also an 8MP camera for selfies.

Other features noted are a side-mounted fingerprint sensor to open the device.

Connectivity-wise, it has 5G SA/NSA, dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2 LE, GPS, NavIC, and NFC.

For OS, it runs Harmony OS 4.2.

The tri-fold is going to be available in China starting September 20, 2024. It is unknown whether it will be available in other regions.
