According to Bloomberg, Sony is working on a portable console that would let gamers play PS5 games.
The big news is that it won't be a remote play device like the PlayStation Portal and that the new handheld will be a standalone handheld version similar to how PSP and PS Vita worked back in the day.
If these reports are true, fans could finally be getting a successor to the PS Vita after more than a decade.
Meanwhile, according to those familiar with the project, Sony's new handheld is "years away" from release. The source also warned that Sony may cancel the project before it reaches the market because it is still in its early stages of development.
Gaming handhelds have recently enjoyed a comeback, thanks to the popularity of the Nintendo Switch series and newer handhelds such as the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally. Microsoft is also said to be building an Xbox handheld, which might lead to an intriguing rivalry for portable gaming in the future years.
