HUAWEI Mate X6 launched in China: 120Hz LTPO cover and folding screens, variable aperture main camera, 4x periscope camera

HUAWEI introduced in China the new Mate X6 foldable with a 120Hz 6.45-inch OLED cover screen, a 120Hz 7.93-inch flexible OLED screen and an IPX8.

Is 5,200mAh enough for a foldable in 2024?

HUAWEI has unveiled its latest book-style foldable with the collector's edition featuring triple-network satellite communications. It is the first mass-market smartphone to have this feature and is expected to be publicly tested in the second half of 2025.

The new Mate X6 features a 6.45-inch 3D Quad-Curved OLED LTPO cover display with a 2,440 x 1,080 resolution. On the inside is the 7.93-inch foldable flexible OLED display with a 2,440 x 2,240 resolution. Both the cover and inner folding screen have a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. 

Inside is the unnamed system-on-chip with 12GB/16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB of storage, and a 5,200mAh battery with 66W wired fast charging via USB-C and 50W fast wireless charging.

On the rear circular camera module are the 50MP f/1.4-4.0 variable aperture main camera with OIS, a 40MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera, a 48MP f/3.4 3x Periscope telephoto camera with OIS, 100x digital zoom and a 1.5MP multi-spectral channel red maple primary color camera with 5cm Telephoto macro and an LED flash.

On the outer cover screen and on the inner folding screen are 8MP f/2.2/f/2.4 selfie cameras.

Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, IPX8 splash resistance, 5G, 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2 LE, GPS, NavIC, and NFC.

The foldable measures 156.6 x 73.78 x 9.85mm and weighs 293 grams. It comes in either Obsidian Black, Cosmopolitan Red, Deep Ocean Blue, Nebula White or Nebula Gray.

Running the show is HarmonyOS 4.3 and is upgradeable to HarmonyOS NEXT.

The Mate X6 is now available for pre-order in China and will be available in stores on December 6, 2024.

There is no word yet on international or Philippine pricing and availability.
