The new polymer banknote comes with smarter features
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has released a new look for the country's 50, 100, and 500 peso banknotes. The features of the said paper bills will be the same as those integrated into the 1,000 peso polymer banknote.
Ang First Philippine Polymer Banknote Series ay mayroong apat na denominasyon at nagtatampok ng smarter, cleaner at stronger features, the central bank said in a post.
The BSP said the polymer version's carbon footprint is lower by 38.4 percent compared to the paper bills. The latest version can also better withstand the humid weather in the country, and is more hygienic and durable, thanks to its smooth and non-absorptive surface.
Based on the post, the 500 peso bill will feature the Visayan Spotted Deer in front, on the 100 bill the Palawan peacock-pheasant, and on the 50 bill the Visayan leopard cat.
The new polymer banknote denominations will start circulating in the first quarter of 2025. Reports also said that the new polymer banknotes will be available in limited quantities in the Greater Manila Area on December 23.
Note that the old paper bills will also remain in circulation.
Also, something to keep in mind is that folded banknotes may be paper bills or polymer, can still be accepted. Remember that the polymer banknotes cannot be ironed (just like what many do to straighten paper bills) as this may cause damage.
You can report violators to authorities through these channels:
