GCash probe says there's no data leak
GCash has released a statement addressing online posts alleging that user information is being sold on the dark web, asserting that its initial investigation has found no evidence of a breach of its systems.
The company stated that it is aware of the allegations and has immediately launched an investigation, involving its cybersecurity experts and relevant authorities.
Initial forensic analysis shows no compromise in GCash systems, the company stated. The investigation further indicates that the dataset being circulated online does not match the data structure used within GCash.
According to the e-wallet giant, an analysis of the material reveals numerous inconsistencies. The alleged dataset reportedly includes individuals who are not GCash users, and many entries appear to be incomplete or invalid. These findings, GCash stated, "strongly indicate that the material being circulated did not originate from GCash."
At this time, there is no evidence of any breach in GCash systems. All customer accounts and funds remain secure, the statement added
GCash confirmed it is continuing to work with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the National Privacy Commission (NPC), and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to validate information from all sources and ensure system protection.
The company is urging users to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity exclusively through its official channels. These include the GCash Help Center at help.gcash.com, the in-app customer service chatbot Gigi, or the GCash hotline at 2882.
GCash reiterated its commitment to "safeguarding customer data, strengthening their defenses, and upholding the trust of millions of Filipinos."
