Honor of Kings adds Lapulapu, A Hero to "Resonate Deeply" with Filipino players

Honor of Kings, the world's most-played mobile MOBA, introduces its inaugural Filipino hero, Lapulapu.

The character is inspired by the historical figure who resisted colonial forces and is considered a symbol of courage and independence.

The hero will be available in the International Edition of Honor of Kings from November 21st.

Lapulapu joins the battlefield this November as a tank support hero with exceptional survivability and crowd control capabilities. With his powerful knock-up skills and long-range mobility, Lapulapu is positioned as a significant presence in team fights, able to initiate battles or shield allies during retreats.

The character's design is intended to represent more than just gameplay abilities. Developers cite themes of sacrifice, leadership, and the will to protect one's home.

Lapulapu reflects our ongoing effort to learn from and celebrate local cultures within Honor of Kings, said Benj Dalmacio, Senior Business Development Manager, Level Infinite Philippines. 'By drawing from the Philippines' rich history and mythology, we hope to create heroes that resonate deeply with players, honoring their stories, values, and heritage in an authentic way.

A Hero Forged by Myth and History

Lapulapu's in-game appearance draws from the statue of the historical figure in the Central Visayas region. He is depicted wielding a Kampilan sword and a Kalasag shield, both of which include mythical design elements. The Kampilan features a vortex energy core and wave patterns, while the Kalasag is adorned with the visage of Bakunawa, a sea serpent from Filipino mythology.

The design incorporates traditional 14th–15th century Visayan attire, with patterns symbolizing the sun, waves, and scales, reflecting early Filipino animist beliefs. The hero's dominant red color palette is described as representing courage and resolve.

Strike, Shield, Survive: Lapulapu's Abilities

Lapulapu is designed as a durable hero capable of influencing battles. His skillset allows players to control the pace of battle, using crowd control and mobility to disrupt enemy formations. The character is intended to function as a frontline protector, initiating fights and shielding allies.

Play, Earn, and Unlock Lapulapu for Free

From November 21 to 27, players can participate in a launch event to earn Lapu Coins by logging in, playing matches, and using new heroes. These coins can be exchanged for rewards, including the Lapulapu hero. Players can also use Star Stones to draw Lapu Coins, with a chance to unlock the hero directly.

The introduction of Lapulapu is presented as a tribute to Filipino strength and heritage. Players are invited to use the character and "stand your ground" in the game's arena.
