MediaTek brings WiFi 8 chip at CES 2026

As mentioned above, the products are designed to support the emerging WiFi 8 standard, which is currently under development, as per MediaTek.

The new chipsets are intended for use in broadband gateways, enterprise access points, and client devices such as smartphones, laptops, and TVs. WiFi 8 specifications aim to address challenges in increasingly congested wireless environments by focusing on improved reliability, reduced latency, and better power efficiency.

Key technological focuses for WiFi 8 include:

  • Multi-AP Coordination - Features like Coordinated Beamforming and Multi-AP Scheduling are designed to allow multiple access points to work together to reduce interference.
  • Spectrum Efficiency - Technologies such as Dynamic Subband Operation aim to improve how devices share crowded wireless spectrum.
  • Coverage and Range - Enhancements like Extended Long Range seek to improve performance at the edge of networks.
  • Latency Optimization - Methods including smarter data rate adaptation target consistent performance for real-time applications like cloud gaming and industrial automation.

WiFi Alliance members are driving industry innovation, and MediaTek is among the first companies to sample WiFi 8 solutions," said Kevin Robinson, President and CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance. "The standard is expected to support more sophisticated applications and multi-gigabit connectivity."

We are demonstrating our work to bring WiFi 8 to gateways and client devices, said Alan Hsu, Corporate Vice President at MediaTek.

MediaTek's demonstrations at CES coincide with growing demand for reliable connectivity for AI and latency-sensitive applications. The company states the Filogic 8000 series will follow a similar release timeline to its previous WiFi 7 products.
