Precise audio in-game

Sony developed the headset in collaboration with esports organization Fnatic as part of the company's continued focus on competitive gaming products.

The headset features an open-back earcup configuration, a departure from the sealed designs common in gaming peripherals. It also weighs around 199 grams without the microphone and cable, making it one of the lightest designs yet from Sony.

It also adopts a spring hinge headband mechanism, consistent with the design used on the INZONE H9 II, aimed at providing a secure fit without excessive clamping pressure.

Sony says this construction minimizes internal sound reflections and produces a more expansive soundstage, which can aid in identifying the direction and distance of in-game audio cues.

Internally, the H6 Wired Air is equipped with custom-tuned drivers derived from Sony's MDR-MV1 studio headphones and adapted for gaming environments.

The driver units incorporate rear ventilation ducts intended to improve bass reproduction while maintaining clarity in mid-range frequencies — preserving the audibility of elements such as footsteps, voice lines, and ambient sounds.

Meanwhile, the audio tuning was conducted in collaboration with sound teams at PlayStation Studios. The headset includes a dedicated RPG and Adventure EQ preset designed to enhance environmental depth.

When paired with the optional USB-C Audio Box and the INZONE Hub software, users gain access to virtual 7.1 surround sound and 360 Spatial Sound for Gaming.

The included boom microphone uses a cardioid pickup pattern and is angled toward the speaker's mouth to isolate voice audio while reducing off-axis noise.
