Record-breaking anime film now streaming in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and other Asia-Pacific territories

Following a theatrical run that made it the highest-grossing anime film in global history, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle" has begun streaming on Netflix in 23 Asia-Pacific markets, including Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

The film broke box-office records in several of these markets, becoming the top-grossing anime release ever in Thailand and the highest-grossing Japanese anime film in both the Philippines and Indonesia. 

In the Philippines, the film earned roughly USD 4.2 million (PHP 238 million) during its opening weekend, according to Seasia.co, marking the country's largest anime opening ever and surpassing major releases from other genres, including horror and superhero films.

The Infinity Castle storyline has long been considered a highly anticipated chapter for fans of the franchise, with interest growing since Demon Slayer's original debut on Netflix. The arc follows the Demon Slayer Corps as they are pulled into the Infinity Castle after series antagonist Muzan Kibutsuji launches an assault on the Ubuyashiki Mansion, sending protagonist Tanjiro and the Hashira into an otherworldly battleground ahead of the story's climactic confrontation.

Anime's broader reach on Netflix

Netflix reports that more than half of its members have watched at least one anime title, reflecting the genre's wide viewership on the platform. Popular titles span both original productions and long-running franchises, including Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, Jujutsu Kaisen: Culling Game Part 1, STEEL BALL RUN: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: 1st STAGE, and BAKI-DOU.

According to Netflix, Jujutsu Kaisen: Culling Game Part 1 spent 13 consecutive weeks in Malaysia's weekly Top 10, the longest streak of any Japanese title in Southeast Asia so far this half of the year. STEEL BALL RUN also reached the Top 10 charts in both Thailand and Vietnam. At the same time, "BAKI-DOU" entered the Philippines' rankings—signs, Netflix says, that audience interest in Japanese anime extends beyond the industry's largest global franchises.

Catching up on the franchise

Ahead of watching Infinity Castle, viewers in the Philippines can stream all five seasons of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, along with the film Demon Slayer, The Movie: Mugen Train, on Netflix.

Film synopsis

The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his younger sister Nezuko is transformed into a demon. 

Alongside fellow corps members Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira, Tanjiro has fought numerous demons and formed alliances with the Corps' elite swordsmen, the Hashira—including Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku, Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui, Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji.

As the Corps undergoes intensive training in preparation for an anticipated confrontation with demons, antagonist Muzan Kibutsuji attacks the Ubuyashiki Mansion. Rushing to defend Corps headquarters, Tanjiro and the Hashira are instead pulled into a mysterious realm by Muzan—the Infinity Castle, the demons' stronghold—setting the stage for the series' climactic battle.
