I recently asked a college student to spend a week with the OPPO A6s 5G to see how it performs. |
| Meet OPPO A6s 5G |
The goal is to find out whether it helped her manage academics, extracurriculars, and social connections, and even prepared her for future career demands—whether attending classes, collaborating on group projects, or staying connected on the go.
Here's what we both found out.
Filipino college student perspective - OPPO A6s 5G experience
The college student is Cielo, now in her 4th year taking BS Tourism Management.
The first thing she raved about was the large display.
 |
| For presentations and gaming |
She told me that the 6.75‑inch 120Hz screen made a big difference compared to her old phone. Canva designs were easier, Netflix streaming more immersive, and split‑screen multitasking useful for juggling Messenger, Teams, and file sharing. For a student entering college, she felt the display was "enough" to handle both academics and leisure.
Next is the battery. I didn't tell her that the phone has 7,000mAh, but she felt it.
Based on her experience, she consistently got two days of use on a single charge, even with social media, online games (CODM, MLBB), and Canva projects.
The 7,000mAh battery gave her peace of mind, especially with OPPO's 5‑Year Durable Battery claim, which reassures students they won't need to upgrade too soon.
At just 8.61mm, having a large 7,000mAh battery is impressive.
Moreover, it has 80W SUPERVOOC Flash Charging, which can fill its entire capacity in just a little over an hour.

| This phone is AI-ready |
She also noted that the device has a stable WiFi connection and liked it when she discovered that it has 5G connectivity.
For students, reliable internet is as important as battery life. It helped her with online classes, research, sending messages, uploading files, and more. This also allowed her access to cloud‑based tools like Canva, Gemini, and other apps like Google Docs (slides, spreadsheets, and docs).
This is probably due to the phone having the AI LinkBoost 3.0, which helped stabilize connections by predicting congestion and switching towers
 |
| Decent for photography |
Meanwhile, the student added that the phone's 50MP rear camera and 16MP selfie camera delivered clear enough results for video calls, recordings, and projects that require taking images and videos.
She found it capable of 1080p 60fps video, good enough for TikTok or Facebook posts tied to school activities. Microphone quality was also strong for calls and recordings.
This even has an AI Editor for editing photos and many other AI features for fixing images.

| A few sample shots |
She also discovered that the phone has 60‑month fluency protection, meaning it should maintain "same" performance even after five years. Only time will tell if this is true, but she noted how valuable it could be for first‑year college students, since most degree programs last four to five years.
In her words, it's reassuring to know the phone could stay reliable throughout an entire college journey—lasting until graduation before needing an upgrade to a work phone.
With up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, she said that it ran the game she plays (Call of Duty: Mobile) decently with barely any lag at default settings.
Moreover, its SuperCool VC System kept the device warm but not hot during extended play. Stereo speakers rounded out the experience with crisp audio for both gaming and Netflix.
The unit she tested is not even the 8GB/256GB variant, but the slightly lower 6GB/128GB edition.

Our thoughts
After more than a week of daily use, the OPPO A6s 5G was described as dependable, creative, and student‑friendly.
While its price is higher than expected for the specs ("thank you" AI tax), it delivers long battery life, a large display, stable connectivity, and features that help students manage studies, extracurriculars, and creative projects.
For those who are studying, it feels like a phone built to last until the next big upgrade.
