New payment option

Smart Communications Inc. will begin accepting Apple Pay for prepaid load purchases and postpaid bill payments starting August 4, expanding payment options for its subscribers.

The mobile services provider said Smart Prepaid and TNT users can use Apple Pay to buy load, while Smart Postpaid and Smart Infinity subscribers can use the service to pay their bills.

With Apple Pay, subscribers can now buy prepaid load and pay their postpaid bills with an easy, secure, and private payment experience, said Lloyd R. Manaloto, FVP and co-OIC at Smart.

Apple Pay payments will be accepted at Smart Stores nationwide and through the Smart Online Store.

According to Smart, the new payment option allows subscribers to complete transactions for load purchases and bill payments both in stores and online.

Apple Pay is supported on compatible Apple devices, including the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. Users can make payments after adding an eligible credit or debit card to the Apple Wallet.

Apple said Apple Pay relies on security features built into its devices, such as Face ID, Touch ID, and passcode authentication. The company also said customers' card numbers are not stored on their devices or Apple servers and are not shared with merchants when payments are made.
