vivo Buds Clip launched: 12mm drivers, 42-hour playback, real-time translation

vivo has introduced the Buds Clip, its first clip-on open-ear earbuds, launched alongside the new X500 smartphone series.

Following a design trend seen in other recent clip-on earbuds, the Buds Clip leaves the ear canal fully unblocked, attaching to the outer ear via a flexible memory titanium alloy bridge. Each earbud weighs 5.2 grams.

The earbuds use a symmetrical design with no distinction between left and right units; the stereo channels adjust automatically based on which ear each bud is clipped to. They are available in black, white, and purple, with the latter two featuring a textured, pearlescent finish.

The other colorways

Each earbud is equipped with a 12mm driver. To address sound leakage common to open-ear designs, vivo has included an anti-leakage mode that uses directional audio to focus sound toward the ear canal.

Additional features include adaptive volume, which adjusts audio levels based on ambient noise, and a 10-band equalizer for manual sound customization. For calls, the earbuds rely on two microphones and a bone-conduction sensor to isolate the user's voice from background sound.

Lightweight buds

Battery life is rated at up to 10 hours per charge, extending to 42 hours total with the charging case. The earbuds support fast charging, providing three hours of playback from a 10-minute charge, and carry an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance.

Controls are handled through a touch-sensitive area on the outer casing, supporting taps for playback and slide gestures for volume adjustment. The earbuds can connect to up to three devices simultaneously via Bluetooth.

As is typical with mobile accessories, certain advanced features are limited to the manufacturer's own device ecosystem. Real-time translation and AI-generated transit notifications require pairing with a compatible Vivo or iQOO smartphone.
