It made several Rolex watches look affordable

Casio, a world-renowned affordable watch brand that captured the hearts of both the rich and poor around the world, just introduced its most expensive G-SHOCK ever—full-blue sapphire MRG-D5000.

Priced at USD 80,000 or around PHP 5 million based on a straight conversion (without taxes and duties yet), the watch promises to come with G-SHOCK's signature toughness and the best of the company's engineering.

The outer case and the bezel of this watch are made from blue sapphire crystal. Each blue sapphire crystal ingot was grown over several months.

It also comes with "Mr. G" and "Shock Resist" text on the dial and the G-SHOCK's ever-popular digital date and time display. Other lettering on the face uses 24-carat gold. The strap uses rubber with a brick pattern matching the dial, not sapphire crystal.

Other features include stable solar power, radio-controlled timekeeping, and 20 bar water resistance.

Since this is a limited edition watch, only 20 will be made.

To recap, G-SHOCK creator Kikuo Ibe showed off sapphire-crystal prototype watches back in 2017 for G-SHOCK's 35th anniversary celebration. Each watch took over a month to produce.

However, it couldn't pass G-SHOCK's rigorous toughness tests. The new MRG‑D5000 is a fully functional G‑Shock, using a multi‑component case design from the MR‑G team to disperse impact more effectively than conventional single‑piece builds. They are calling this the Multi-Guard Structure for Sapphire.

After nine (9) years, the MRG-D5000 finally launches alongside RG-B5000SA-2 (USD 9,500 or around PHP 594K) and GMW-B5000SB-1A (USD 850 or around PHP 53K).

There is no info on whether it will be available in the Philippines yet.
