Nokia 8 Unboxing And First Impressions

OPPO
Infinix
Nokia has been launching phones locally at a steady pace that is almost like teasing for the main event, the flagship: Nokia 8 with Dual Zeiss 13 MP cameras!
Return of the king?

The build is incredible with a seamlessly beautiful marriage of metal and glass. We especially like the blue colored one as it really stands out. It reminded us of the beauty and pop that the HTC U11 exuded. This design from Nokia, however is slimmer and more refined.

What caught our next is the subtle but effective Nokia and Zeiss branding that the Filipinos has come to know and love.

Unboxing / Accessories

Beautiful box art!
Beautiful box art!

The cover art has this big Nokia brand on it with an image of what Nokia aims that its customers will associate the Nokia 8 with. It subtle but effective.

Inside is the Nokia 8, fast charging power brick, USB 2.0 to USB Type C Cord, headphones, documentation and sim tray ejector.

Build Quality / Design

Sturdy and sexy build!

The phone is slim, solid and lightweight! It's the definition of sexy! Though the back is incredibly prone to fingerprints and we found it to be great feel in the hands but you tend to feel like it will slip off. Otherwise, this is a well designed phone.

Slim, solid, and hefty!

The 5.3 Inch QHD IPS 2560 x 1440p that is protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass that is bright, sharp and saturated. We like how the glass just seamlessly connect to the metal frame that screams refined and polished through and through which is what Nokia was known for.

The dark blue has different tones to it depending on the amount and the direction of the light hitting the phone. We can't get enough of it. We're hoping for more colors. The phone comes in steel and blue color for now.

The hardware buttons have this satisfying tactile feedback that you will enjoy whenever you decide to press them. The fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate and placed below the screen.

Initial Findings

Zeiss!

1. The backplate is beautiful but is a fingerprint magnet. It is also slippery.
2. The screen is sharp, saturated and bright with a certain pop to it that always catches our eye.
3. It uses near stock Android Nougat that Nokia says automatically updates. You don't need to manual prompt the phone to update. It just does and it happens as soon as the latest version of Android is released.
4. It has this Dual Zeiss side feature where you can take pictures with both cameras from both sides simultaneously. The dual 13 MP Zeiss cameras have been prominently used creatively in their marketing campaigns and I think having nearly identical cameras on both sides is the way of the future. We like the image quality we are getting but we'd like to do more tests.
5. We like that it has a fingerprint scanner is at the front. It has LTE, OTG and LED notifications.

As of the moment

We are loving the design and the dual 13 MP Zeiss cameras. That blue color will be very popular. We hope to test the cameras more and the multiple multi-directional microphone for better video recording and video calls. We also hope that because it is near stock, that it will the future get the updates as quickly as possible!

We have high hopes this phone will generate the noise that Nokia needs to be the leader in the smartphone industry!
