1. Cloudfone Excite Prime 2 - Starting the list off, the Cloudfone Excite Prime 2 shows what the future holds for our very own local brands. It has a 5.5-inch HD IPS OGS display with 2.5D glass on top of it. It has a combination of metal and plastic for its build and it really feels premium for the price.

Under the hood, it has a 64-bit MT6737 quad core processor that is running at 1.3GHz. It also has a Mali-T720 GPU, 3GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage. The cameras are impressive as well. It has a 13MP f/2.0 Sony IMX135 sensor with AF and dual tone flash as a main camera. The selfie camera has am 8MP f/2.0 sensor with portrait mode and softlight LED flash. It is also able to utilize 700 MHz LTE frequency.

This is basically a steal at PHP 5,999.

2. Cherry Mobile Flare S6 - The Cherry Mobile S6 packs a lot for PHP 3,999. It has a 5.2-inch HD IPS panel, a 64-bit 1.3Ghz MT6737 quad core processor, 2GB of RAM with 16GB of expandable storage. It also has a 13MP Sony IMX135 sensor with BSI, AF and LED flash plus a 13MP selfie camera.

What's more impressive is that it has USB Type-C, 700 MHz LTE and fingerprint scanner. It is also running it's own Cherry OS on top of Android 7.0 Nougat.

3. Vivo Y53 - The Y53 is like a shout out to times wherein 5-inch smartphones are not considered undersized. At PHP 5,990, you are getting a 5-inch qHD display that is becoming more and more uncommon as smartphones go bigger and better. It has a 64-bit 1.4Ghz quad core Snapdragon 425 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 13 GB of internal storage. LTE is also available here as well.

4. Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime - Samsung's candidate for the entry-level price range the J2 Prime can hold it's own at PHP 5,990. Just like the Y53, it also has a 5-inch qHD display at 201ppi. Driving it is the 64-bit MT6737T processor clocked at 1.3Ghz, Mali-T720 GPU, 1.5GB of RAM with a 16Gb expandable storage. It has an 8MP main camera and a 5MP selfie camera. It has LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, A GPS and dual SIM slots.

5. Huawei Y5 2017 - Once touted as the best budget smartphone, the Y5 2017 is still one of the best in this price range. At PHP 5,890, it has a 5 inch HD IPS display, 64-bit 1.4Ghz quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM with a 16 GB expandable storage and a huge 3000mAh battery.

The cameras are capable enough at 8MP f/2.0 w/AF at the back and 5MP f/2.4 wide angle lens upfront.

6. Meizu M5c - At PHP 5,990, Meizu delivered a great budget phone with M5c. It has a 5 inch HD IPS display with 2.5D glass, a 64-bit 1.3Ghz processor, 2GB of RAM with 16GB of expandable storage and also a 3000mAh battery. The cameras are also decent. It has an 8MP f/2.0 with AF and LED flash while the selfie camera has a 5MP f/2.0 sensor.

7. Cherry Mobile Flare X2 - At PHP 5,999, the Flare X2 has a 5.5 inch FHD display with a 64-bit octa core Snapdragon 430 chip clocked at 1.4Ghz, 4GB of RAM with 32GB of expandable storage. It also has a 16MP main camera with AF, BSI and LED flash and an 8MP selfie camera along with a 3000 mAh battery. The specs to price ratio of this phone is still great even after a year.
