LG Stylus 3 Unboxing And First Impressions

It is a pretty interesting offering equipped with midrange-grade specs, big 5.7 inch screen, 700 MHz LTE support, fingerprint scanner and a stylus pen. The pen could be used for jotting down notes,

Now, it is time to check if this is more than just a budget Galaxy Note alternative.

Unboxing / Accessories

Everything inside
Everything inside

The LG Stylus 3 comes with the standard USB wall charger, USB to micro USB data / charging port, earbuds with microphone and the attached stylus pen. It has some sort of plastic screen protection on the screen as well.

Build Quality / Design

Plastic back cover

Unfortunately, construction is not a strong point of this phablet. The frame and the removable back cover of the Stylus 3 is still made out of thin plastic. It doesn't feel as solid against most smartphones in its price bracket.

In front, there's a flat 5.7 inch HUGE screen. Unfortunately, there's no mention of glass protection against scratches or drops.

Construction could be better

The build of this handset is still acceptable, but we are hope to see metal clad midrangers from LG in the near future.

On the other hand, the design of the phablet is quite good. We like its curves, slimness and the not that protruding main camera. The black border side bezels could be better, but it is still acceptable as of this writing in our opinion.

Design is modern, decent!

Moreover, the ports and buttons are in proper and ergonomic positions. The fingerprint scanner is easy to reach and stylus pen has a strategic placement on the upper right side of the device.

Initial Findings

1. The Stylus 3 has good design and ergonomics. Build could be better. The 5.7 inch screen even at just HD resolution has nice colors and acceptable sharpness.
2. It is using the familiar MT650 octa core chip paired with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. We expect casual phone usage, social media and basic games to run smoothly. The battery capacity at 3,200 mAh is acceptable on paper for the screen size. It has 700 MHz LTE support as well.
3. It is on Nougat OS out of the box! Icons looks clean and reminds of of V20 overall.
4. The 13 MP f/2.2 main camera and 8 MP f/2.4 front camera has good daylight performance so far. We'll try it in lowlight soon.
5. Android keys are on-screen, OTG is present, fingerprint scanner acts like a shutter key as well and the stylus pen really feels like a pen so far. In particular, the stylus pen comes out with a quick menu for Pop Memo, Capture, Pop Scanner and Quick Memo for your notes. It also acts like a mouse for your phone.

As of the moment

The LG Stylus 3 could be the best modern Galaxy Note alternative on a budget today. It may not have the toughest build around, but LG ensured has fairly decent overall specs and features for the price.

We also find its stylus pen very responsive and fun to use so far.
