OPPO A71 (2018): First Camera Samples

P20 leaderboard
No doubt, the new OPPO A71 (2018) is one of the speediest for the price due to its mid-range grade 64-bit Snapdragon 450 chipset.

But, OPPO claimed that the A71 (2018) is more than just speed. The global company also paired it with a capable 13MP f/2.2 PDAF main camera and a 5MP f/2.4 selfie shooter with screen flash.

In addition, the 5MP f/2.4 selfie shooter has the A.I. Beauty Recognition Technology found on the higher-end A83 and F5 series phones.

OPPO's selfie A.I. helps users take the most natural looking beautified selfies without exaggeration. It will also analyze your face to improve selfies the more you use it without exaggeration. OPPO also aims to improve selfies the more you use it.

The primary 13MP camera is almost as impressive as the great 13MP shooter found on the higher-end OPPO A83. It shoots photos with good speed and can focus quickly thanks to its PDAF focus technology. We also enjoyed the fact that it delivered natural looking photos with very minimal grain in daylight.

For dim indoor and lowlight shots, obvious loss of details, colors, and dynamic range is visible. There are times where it'll desaturate the subject or the whole scene in lowlight. But to be fair with OPPO, A71 (2018)'s lowlight snaps are still considered as decent to good for its low price tag.

It even has a robust expert mode also known as pro mode that has ISO 22 to 3200 (most likely via software) and 1/8000 to 16s shutter control.

Selfies are important! Even if the A71 (2018)'s selfie camera is still at 5MP with the not that bright aperture size of f/2.4, OPPO managed to improve its selfie performance coming from the old A71 last year.

The selfie camera can perform decently even in dim lighting conditions. The bokeh mode looks quite good as well.

So far, the cameras are far from perfect, but initial results are quite promising for the price.
