Smartphone designs are getting better each release. The bezels are getting slimmer and the notch is getting smaller. So, what happened with Pixel 3 XL?

The Google Pixel 3 XL design can be improved |
Hey Google, what happened to the Pixel 3 XL's design?
First, we are not saying that the Pixel 3 XL is an ugly smartphone. It actually looks good especially with the all glass back. The signature two-tone design is still there but in a more subtle way. They achieved this by having a frosted glass at the bottom part of the glass back to give it a matte finish texture.

Again, Google had fun with the color names with just black, clearly white and not pink. They also retained the colored power button from previous versions which gives it a sort of accent. However, we noticed something peculiar about the Pixel 3 XL though.
Its notch is bigger than most 2018 releases. It also has a bigger chin than other current releases today. It seems like as most of the brands are fighting the best screen-to-body ratio, Google seems to be lagging behind in this department.
It begs the question: Why are the chin and notch that big?
At first, we assumed that it may have additional sensors up front like the iPhone X back then. However, the Pixel 3 XL's notch only contains two front facing cameras and a front facing speaker. No special sensors like to help with selfies or facial recognition like an IR dot projector. None.
It shouldn't have been a big deal to have that big of a notch. However, recent releases such as the LG V40 ThinQ has dual selfie cameras with a much smaller notch. The front facing speaker could have been the reason for both chin and the notch but we also saw smartphones that has that but has a better design.
If it's only an improvement in the design department, we believe that Google can allocate more resources for that. The Pixel 3 XL has always been a solid flagship choice in terms of cameras and performance but they always seem to lack in design.
We don't think this is the best their designers and engineers can do. Google is always moving forward and innovating so we think its only a matter of time.
For the next Pixel, the design SHOULD get a LOT of improvement.
Google should have a better consultant in terms of design and we hope they take the people's feedback into account for the next design.
That combined with their resources could potentially create an amazing beast.
What do you guys think?
