OPPO R17 Pro with SuperVOOC tech still offers the fastest charging speed in the smartphone market
One key factor that could make a smartphone great is its charging speed. Some phones have fast charging speed, but with weak battery life. Some phones have strong battery performance, but with slow charging speed.
To recall, the R17 Pro was first introduced in the Philippines last November of 2018.
Fast forward in mid February of 2019, it is still one of the best it still has the fastest charging speed from all the phones we ever tested yet.
OPPO achieved this feat on the R17 Pro with the use of their homegrown SuperVOOC fast charging solution.
SuperVOOC is the upgrade of VOOC flash charge. VOOC has up to 5V/4A or 20W of output while SuperVOOC comes with 10V/5A or 50W of super fast charging output.
It uses a bi-cell design tech to distribute the huge 50W of power to the 2x 1,700mAh batteries of the R17 Pro.
The SuperVOOC even has a safety certification from TÜV Rheinland, the German safety authority.
The result is way better than the regular VOOC. In our numerous tests, the fastest charging time we recorded is 38 minutes from 0 to 100 percent. The slowest charging speed we got is 45 minutes of charging time.
It is insane as the R17 Pro has a pretty big 3,700mAh of battery capacity.
A phone with basic 5V/1A charger needs around 3 hours to charge a small 3,000mAh battery. The charging time of our iPhone XS using the default slow charger is 3 hours.
The OnePlus 6T with 30W Warp Charge charges its 3,700mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in 50 minutes.
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro with 40W SuperCharge solution needs around 1 hour and 10 minutes to fully charge its big 4,200mAh battery.
Pound per pound, it is closer match between OPPO's SuperVOOC and Huawei's SuperCharge.
But from our estimate, SuperVOOC will still be a bit faster than SuperCharge even if the R17 Pro and Mate 20 Pro comes with equal battery life.
My only issue with SuperVOOC is there are only few phones that has this tech. From my memory, only the R17 Pro and Find X Lamborghini Edition have it.
Hopefully, more OPPO phones will have the SuperVOOC soon.
