Ookla: PLDT, Smart have the fastest fixed, mobile networks in PH

Ookla's latest Speedtest Awards hailed PLDT and Smart as the provider with the fastest fixed and mobile networks in the Philippines in 2018.

Based on its latest report last Q3 and Q4 2018, Smart achieved a Speed Score TM of 15.57 with an average of 17.86 Mbps download speeds and 8.61 Mbps of upload speeds. It is based on 2,186,540 user-initiated tests using Ookla's Speedtests on LTE-capable devices in the country.

PLDT achieved a Speed Score of 18.57 on the other hand. PLDT has a top download speed of 52.28 Mbps and top upload speeds of 55.95 Mbps. The award was based on 27,221,777 customer-initiated Speedtest nationwide last Q3 and Q4 2018.

This recognition is testament to their exceptional performance in Q3-Q4 based on Ookla's rigorous analysis of consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest, said Jamie Steven, Executive Vice President at Ookla.

To recall, Smart and PLDT only scored 14.98 and 17.31 last Q1 and Q2 2018. The latest figures showed an improvement.

PLDT and Smart added that they will continue to improve their internet service nationwide. PLDT and Smart invested USD 5 billion from 2016 to 2020. In 2018, the capital expenditures of the company were at PHP 58 billion.

To date, Smart has covered 90 percent of cities and municipalities. PLDT on the other hand has 221,000 km of fiber infrastructure in the country.
