Redmi Note 7 fails JerryRigEverything's bend test |
Not as tough as the POCOPHONE F1

The plastic frame during the bend test |
During the build up before its launch, there were of videos showing Redmi Note 7's ability to take a beating.
As expected, JerryRigEverthing put the matter in his own hands to checked if the smartphone is as tough as advertised. He placed the Redmi Note 7 through his famous durability tests.
Redmi Note 7 is advertised to sport Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the front and back. It survived scratches from keys and coins but harder metals will create some marks. It also passed the flame tests as the LCD display still functions after it.

The second bend test broke the screen |
Unfortunately, the Redmi Note 7 failed the bend test because of the frame, which is made out of plastic material. The overall structural proved to be weaker than expected and the glass back shattered and the screen got damaged.
Further inspection of the device showed that Xiaomi added a porous metal behind the plastic frame to provide additional support. However, the area of the power button did not have the same metal support which resulted to it breaking off. The SIM tray's metal support also broke off. This means that the metal is brittle and easily breakable under pressure.
The Redmi Note 7 is still a great device overall. It is still the most affordable phone in the world with 48MP camera and more. Just do not try to force bend it.
The plastic construction its cousin, the POCOPHONE F1 is tougher. To recall, JerryRigEverything called the POCO F1 cheap yet tough.
