Mid-range triple-cam! |
At PHP 15,990, Mi 9 SE is currently the most affordable phone in the country with 48MP f/1.75 Sony IMX586 sensor yet.
It's a 1/2-type unit with 0.8μm pixel that uses Sony's "Quad Bayer" color filter to bin four pixels together to a 12MP output with large 1.6μm pixels. It is to allow the sensor shoot images with great amount of details, accurate colors with proper exposure, and wide dynamic range.
In addition, Mi 9 SE comes with two more cameras at the back. The 48MP sensor is paired with a 13MP f/2.4 w/ 123-degree ultra wide-angle sensor and 8MP f/2.4 2x telephoto sensor.
Mi 9 SE also has Dual Pixel PDAF for faster and more accurate autofocus. It also comes with AI scene detection and a dedicated handheld long exposure feature for stunning night shots.

Quick thoughts
The 48MP Sony camera shoots images with incredible amount of details. Color reproduction on auto mode are mostly okay too. It produces images with punchy colors when needed as well. It has accurate exposure most of the time as well.
Mi 9 SE also has one of the best night modes in town. To my eyes, its quality is near flagship-grade. We just noticed
The ultra-wide lens is impressive too. Barrel distortion is minimal and it really allowed us to see more. In low light images are softer as expected, but noise is surprisingly minimal.
The 2x zoom 3rd camera performed nicely in daylight with minimal noise. The 3rd lens also aids the main camera to let you take portrait shots with pretty clean looking background blur.
For selfies, the 20MP shooter of Mi 9 SE is great for daylight and and even low light shots. The HDR for against the light shots and portrait mode selfies with bokeh are mostly okay for me as well.
My only issue is its color reproduction. It could make you too white at times.
But so far, the cameras of the Mi 9 is arguably the of the most impressive in its class.
Mi 9 SE is now available at the 8th Authorized Mi Store in Robinsons Manila and Lazada.
