The development would collect, sort, clean and wash polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, signaling the firm's first major investment in a recycling project in the region.

Coca-Cola has called the Philippines its home for 107 years and counting, and we want to do our part in ensuring sustainability within its shores, Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines Inc president and CEO Gareth McGeown said.

With the project, the group expects to enhance PET collection as well as recycling rates in the country, while creating more jobs.

The PHP 1-billion facility was in line with its "World Without Waste" global commitment, where Coca-Cola targets to collect and recycle the equivalent of every bottle and can it sells by 2030.

McGeown also noted that all Coca-Cola cans and bottles are recyclable.

In addition, Coca-Cola eyes using an average of 50 percent recycled content in its packaging, including PET bottles.
