Network rollout to start next month

Mislatel consortium, composed of Udenna Corp. Chelsea Logistics and Infrastructure Holdings Corp., and state-run China Telecommunications, signed a share purchase agreement to comply with the National Telecommunications Commission's (NTC) PHP 10-billion equity requirement.

We're really hoping to get everything fixed by July. The signing of the agreements is a vivid manifestation of the fulfillment of our goal to provide Filipinos with faster and reliable internet connection. We are grateful for the support and cooperation shown by the approving bodies. Our unified efforts will pave the way for better telecommunications services for all, said Chelsea Logistics and Infrastructure Holdings Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Chryss Alfonsus V. Damuy.

The group, however, still needs to submit its performance bond amounting PHP 25.7 billion before the government could award the certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPC), as well as the frequencies in the 700 and 2100 MHz, and 2.5, 3.3 and 3.5 GHz bands.

While Mislatel may get the CPCN and the coveted spectrum, Filipinos may witness its commercial operations by next year, its spokesperson Adel Tamano said.

Under its five-year committed period, the challenger to the Globe and PLDT duopoly vowed to provide 55 megabits per second (Mbps) of internet speed to 84.01 percent of national coverage.

Capital expenditures for this endeavor will reach PHP 257 billion.
