Trump lifts ban on Huawei? Now allowed to buy from US suppliers

Trump said the news at a press conference following the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, Japan.

Huawei can now buy and use tech from US companies again

Trump was quoted saying "US companies can sell their equipment to Huawei. We’re talking about equipment where there’s no great national security problem with it."

This comes after US companies resumed business with the Chinese giant along with assurance by Huawei that customers will receive timely Android updates.

Just last month, the US's Commerce Department blacklisted Huawei, a move that could potentially slow down the speedy growth of the company worldwide.

Trump's administration accused the global Chinese tech company of spying. Huawei denied the accusation.

The US government also failed to present any proof showing that Huawei is a threat to its national security.

But, it still resulted in a ban forbidding American companies to sell their products and solutions to Huawei. It included operating systems, chipsets, and other components required to make a phone or a PC.

I said that’s O.K., that we will keep selling that product, these are American companies that make these products. That's very complex, by the way, Trump said. I've agreed to allow them to continue to sell that product so that American companies will continue.

However, the ban resulted in unforeseen damage to American companies to relied on Huawei as a customer. To recall, Huawei purchased USD 11 billion in American goods in 2018.

But since Trump softens its stance against Huawei, the US government is expected to officially allow the company from buying to US suppliers soon.

We are just unsure yet if this means that Trump will also allow Huawei to sell its goods to the US.

Still, it is a fascinating development revolving the "now-paused" US-China trade war.
