Xiaomi recalls specific batch of Mi Electric Scooter (M365)

The Chinese tech giant has posted an announcement through their social media channels for the recall of the specific batches of their Mi Electric Scooter (M365). They have been aware and determined that in a limited number of production units, a screw in the folding apparatus has the potential to come loose, causing the vertical component to break from the main body while in use, according to their official recall statement.

There are a total of 10,257 affected units that were produced between October 27, 2018 and December 5, 2018. These are primarily concentrated in the United Kingdom garnering a total of 7,406 pieces. 

Other affected regions are as follows: 

  • Germany - 613 pcs.
  • Spain - 509 pcs.
  • Ireland - 443 pcs.
  • Denmark - 258pcs.
  • Kazakhstan - 200 pcs.
  • Myanmar - 175 pcs.
  • Colombia - 97 pcs.
  • Turkey - 80 pcs.
  • Laos - 79 pcs.
  • Italy - 37 pcs.
  • Hungary - 34 pcs.
  • Greece - 31 pcs.
  • Korea - 30 pcs.
  • Macau - 25 pcs.
  • United Arab Emirates - 22 pcs.
  • Belgium - 17 pcs.
  • Portugal - 16 pcs.
  • Singapore - 14 pcs.
  • Russia - 1 pc.
  • Thailand - 1pc.
  • Unidentified region - 169 pcs.

The affected serial numbers (S/N) range from: 21074/00000316 - 21074/00015107 and 16133/00541209 - 16133/00544518.

The recall program will start on June 26, 2019 for the United Kingdom and July 1, 2019 for other markets. Xiaomi also warns those who possess Mi Electric Scooter (M365) to stop using it until they have already determined that their scooter is not part of the affected units.

Warning: If any user notices a screw coming loose on their scooter, please DO NOT try to fix the issue on your own. We strongly encourage users to read our instructions carefully before operating. *Disclaimer: Any scooters that were modified are not part of this recall. Working closely with our Mi Electric Scooter manufacturer, we have remedied the issue moving forward. We sincerely apologize for any concern this may have caused our customers, part of Xiaomi's official recall announcement.

How to determine if your Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter (M365) is subject to recall?

Consumers who purchased the product can easily determine if their Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter (M365) is subject to recall by entering the serial number in the box provided in this link. The instructions are clearly stated inside the link regarding the location of the product's serial number.

If the consumer's device is part of the product safety recall program, the consumer will immediately receive a prompt asking to enter their email address. Within 72 hours, the consumer will receive additional information regarding the repair of Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter at no cost.
