The contact lens that can let you see closer?

The robotic soft contact lens has the ability to let yous zoom by just blinking twice. The report also said that the lens can be controlled by your eye movement.

The human eyeball is electric – there is a steady electrical potential between its front and back, even when your eyes are closed or in total darkness. When you move your eyes to look around or blink, the motion of the electrical potential can be measured.

Shengqiang Cai, the lead researcher of the project also said that:

Even if your eye cannot see anything, many people can still move their eyeball and generate this electro-oculographic signal.

To keep it simple, these scientists measured the electrical impulse and found a way to use it to change the focal length of the lens. The study claimed that because of the soft materials from the lens, it can have relative changes in the focal length as large as 32 percent.

To achieve the feat, the scientists are deforming the lens by using dielectric elastomer.

In the future, the scientists said that the lens can be used for visual prostheses, adjustable glasses, and remotely operated robotics in the future.

It could be a pretty useful type of lens for those who want to see nearer and clearer.
