Huawei, Samsung, and OPPO have all dropped the prices of the Y7 Pro 2019, Galaxy J6+, and A3s (3GB/32GB) recently.

Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is now priced at just PHP 8,990 from 9,990. On the other hand, both the Galaxy J6+ and OPPO A3s (3GB/32GB) are now priced at PHP 7,990 from PHP 9,990.

Halfway through 2019, if you are still eyeing any of the above-mentioned phones, let's see who among them has the best chance to be still worth your hard-earned money.

Build Quality/Design

Huawei Y7 Pro 2019, Samsung Galaxy J6+ (2018), OPPO A3s are all packed with the pretty good build and stylish designs for the price.

All highlights a polycarbonate material at the back with a glossy finish that is a bit prone to fingerprint smudges. The cameras on them all are a bit protruding as well. As expected, there's no layer of protection for their material behind. So, expect hairline scratches if the user won't put a case.

For the style, I might pick the Y7 Pro 2019 as it is curvier than the J6+ 2018 and A3s. It goes with a 3D curved glass-like design that simply looks more premium.

In front, all are loaded with tall IPS screens. Y7 Pro and A3s are equipped with taller 19:9 screens for a wider viewing experience than the 18:9 panel of the J6+.  All goes with smaller bezels than 16:9 phones of the past.

But, Y7 Pro arguably has the nicest front panel among the three as it has the highest screen-to-body ratio with more screen real estate. It has a notch (could be a con for some), but it is not as big as the A3s and it doesn't have the thick top and bottom bezel of the J6+.

The biggest phone in this comparison is the J6+ at 161.4 x 76.9 mm despite having the smallest display. For phones with over 6.2-inch screen sizes, the A3s and Y7 Pro are not that big at 156 x 75.3 and 158.92 x 76.91, respectively.

The rest of the ports and buttons are all easy to reach. The heaviest among the three is the J6+ weighing at 178 grams followed by Y7 Pro at 168 grams and A3s at 158 grams.

Display Quality

Tall screens
Tall screens

The three phones have over 6-inch IPS screens in size. The one with the largest panel is the Y7 Pro with a 6.26-inch screen followed by the 6.2-inch of A3s and 6-inch of J6+.

The superior display goes to Huawei Y7 Pro 2019

All can produce decent colors with respectable HD+ resolution. Obviously, they won't be as sharp as other phones with FHD+ panels, but at least they don't look bad at all.

Screen color quality is identical among the three with respectable viewing angles, you can also adjust the screens in the display settings, but the one with the brightest display for better outdoor legibility is the Y7 Pro.

Surprise, J6+ is a budget Samsung phone with a light sensor just like Y7 Pro and A3s. That's rare!

J6+ and A3s only go with 5 points of touch, while Y7 Pro features 10 points of touch though.

It is clear here that the one with the nicer screen is Y7 Pro, thanks to its smaller notch, more screen real estate for the more immersive viewing experience, brighter panel, and 10 points of touch for more responsive typing and swiping.

Audio Quality

All three phones are only packed with a single speaker. A3s and Y7 Pro have down-firing speakers while you will see J6 Pro's speaker at its right side. To my ears, all are quite loud. The noise on J6 Pro noticeable and its highs are not as great as A3s and Y7 Pro. Y7 Pro is arguably the loudest here.

It all sounds quite nice with using your favorite earphones. Audio output on the A3s is the cleanest. Y7 Pro is a bit more dynamic. J6+ is just alright.

Bluetooth audio worked on the three phones as well. Lastly, they are equipped with a decent type of microphones for calls and audio recordings at this price point.

Battery

Y7 Pro - 17 hours and 30 mins
Y7 Pro - 17 hours and 30 mins

Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 loads with a 4,000mAh battery capacity. J6+ only has 3,300mAh. A3s goes with a 4,230mAh battery.

Unsurprisingly, Y7 Pro registered 17 hours and 30 minutes of work battery life score. Sadly, J6+ only goes for 7 hours and 54 minutes. A3s come with 22 hours and 16 minutes.

Both A3s and Y7 Pro have longer battery performance than most competing phones. J6 has the weakest battery life among the three.
Only under 8 hours for J6+
Only under 8 hours for J6+

Fortunately, Samsung J6+ has a respectable charging time of around 1 hour and 45 minutes. Both A3s and Y7 Pro needs over 2 hours and 45 minutes to be charged from 0 to 100 percent.

Camera

In the camera department, Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is equipped with 13MP f/1.8 + 2MP f/2.4 dual-camera setup with PDAF focus, Master AI, and an LED flash.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy J6+ (2018) goes with a 13MP f/1.9 + 5MP f/2.2 w/ AF and LED flash.

OPPO A3s uses a 13MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4 dual-camera with AF and LED flash.

All three phones are rich in features and can take shots with respectable bokeh blur. Y7 Prime (2019) has an advantage in AI photography and low light.

They don't have the night modes yet though.

For selfies, Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 features a 16MP f/2.0 shooter. J6+ has an 8MP f/1.9 selfie shooter and A3s is equipped with an 8MP f/2.2 selfie camera with AI Beauty 2.0 tech.

Most of our shots showed that it is a good match between Y7 Pro 2019 and A3s. But Y7 Pro 2019 wins in low light. The selfie for J6+ is quite bad which looks to white and soft to my taste.

Performance

Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 benchmarks
Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 benchmarks

Both Huawei Y7 Pro (2019) and OPPO A3s are similar in performance and speed, thanks to its 14nm 64-bit Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. It is also paired with the Adreno 506 GPU which is quite respectable for gaming. The multi-core score of Y7 Pro is just a bit higher than A3s.

Sadly, Samsung Galaxy J6+ (2018) still runs with the aging Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The scores it got are lagging behind the Y7 Pro and A3s.

All three phones are paired with ample 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. All goes with expandable slots for more apps, games, and other files.

In our experience, overall performance and speed are similar between Y7 Pro and A3s. Both can even play some games like NBA 2K19 at medium settings and PUBG Mobile. NBA on Samsung Galaxy J6+ (2018) is laggy even at low settings. Expect to experience crashes as well.

All three phones go with decent thermal management too. But again, Y7 Pro and A3s with 12nm chips generate less heat than J6+ with old school 28nm chip.

The UI

Y7 Pro 2019 UI

The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 loads with Android 8.1 Oreo OS with EMUI 8.2 skin. It doesn't load with the latest EMUI 9.0 skin though.

There are a few bloats but those can be uninstalled to free up space. It has a Phone Manager to help the user manually optimize the phone's performance.

There is this
"Hi Care" app that has various tips for the user to have a full grasp of the Y7 Pro 2019's capacity. It has also the customizable Huawei designed themes.

It has an FM Radio but you need to plug in your headset to be able to use it. There's is a Phone Manager to optimize your phone as well.

Samsung Galaxy J6+ is running with Android 8.1 Oreo as well with the Experience skin. The new One UI is obviously better, but its skin still looks quite streamlined and easy to use. There's a lot of Samsung bloats though.
Color OS 5.1
Color OS 5.1

A3s runs with Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorsOS 5.1 skin. It is OPPO's iOS looking skin with no app drawer unlike the new ColorOS 6. It has most of the OPPO pre-installed apps like the apps for optimization, OPPO Share, and more. It is quite easy to use overall as well.

Other features

All three phones don't have a fingerprint scanner. They rely on face unlock instead. Overall, the speed of face unlock is quite fast for A3s and Y7 Pro. A3s is a bit faster. But Y7 Pro is a bit more accurate and it has the more steady low light face unlock performance. J6+ has a decent face unlock, but it is more of a hit or miss compared with its two competitors.

All three phones have 4G LTE, but A3s and Y7 Pro are packed with 700MHz Band 28 support, unlike the J6+.

Other connectivity options such as GSM, Bluetooth, GPS are decent on the three phones.

All have USB OTG for external storage and more. All also goes with a gyroscope sensor to support VR and AR apps.

Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 advantages - Brighter screen with smaller notch, louder speaker, selfie camera
Samsung Galaxy J6+ (2018) advantages - N/A
OPPO A3s (3GB/32GB) advantages - Bigger battery capacity, fast face unlock

Verdict

For me, it is a match between the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 and OPPO A3s (3GB/32GB). Samsung Galaxy J6+ comes with respectable cameras, but its overall performance is lagging way behind the Y7 Pro and A3s.

The speed of Y7 Pro and A3s are identical, but Y7 Pro is ahead in terms of design. Battery performance on the A3s is a bit better.

But overall, my pick in this comparison is the Y7 Pro 2019. Why? It has a more modern design, brighter display with smaller notch, the same speed with A3s, decent cameras, and good selfie cameras.
