Disappointing scores

Today, the guys over DxOMark, the professional camera quality reviewers posted a review of the phone.

To our surprise, its trio of 12MP cameras only recorded a total score of 91 points.
It only got a score of 94 points for photos and 84 points for video.

In  comparison, the P30 Pro has 119 points for photos and 97 points for videos for a total of 112 points. The new Galaxy Note10+ 5G is even more impressive with 118 points for photos and 101 points for videos.

To recall, it has the same total score as dirt-cheap the POCO F1.

For selfies, it is even more disappointing. It only got a total score of 78 points.

For a high-end phone model from the brand who makes the camera sensors of other high-end phones, this score is unacceptable.

The Xperia 1 comes with a few pretty unique movie features, including a 21:9 aspect ratio, 24fps recording, and color management presets, which were not assessed under our test protocol. If you think those features could help lift your mobile videography to the next level, the Xperia 1 might well be worth a closer look.

That said, the Sony Xperia 1’s image quality performance is surprisingly on par only with older or less expensive smartphones, demonstrating that camera software must be also be carefully tuned in order to optimize hardware performance and successfully compete in the high-end smartphone market.

Sony should up their camera phone game to be competitive with the likes of Huawei, Samsung, and Xiaomi.
