Facebook OS?

The name of the alleged OS is still unknown for now. But according to a new report from The Information, the development of the OS is being led by Mark Lucovsky, a Microsoft veteran who co-authored the Windows NT operating system.

The details about the operating system are limited as well. However, we can speculate that it could be used on future Facebook hardware products such as the Oculus and Portal devices.

To recall, both Oculus and Portal run on a modified version of Android.

The Verge also reported that Facebook's AR and VR heads, Ficus Kirkpatrick said that Facebook's future hardware won't need to rely on Google's software.

If true, this move could reduce or completely remove Google's control over Facebook's hardware.

The report also suggests that Facebook is hoping to achieve a similar approach to Apple for its hardware in the future.

To recall, this is not the first time that Facebook attempted to produce its own OS. Back in 2013, Facebook launched a skinned version of Android on an HTC phone. Sadly, it didn't have a follow-up.

Now, let's see!

Do you think that Facebook will succeed this time?
