In an effort to bring 5G to more affordable devices, Samsung is reportedly considering to use the new MediaTek chips on some of its upcoming mid-range Galaxy phones.

A report from China Times said that Samsung has approached the Taiwan-based silicon manufacturer for 5G solutions.


To recall, MediaTek's mid-range chip game has improved a lot. The G90 and G90T can stand toe-to-toe with its Qualcomm counterparts. In benchmark scores, G90T is even higher than Snapdragon 730G.

Taiwan's MediaTek has also invested heavily in 5G and AI that resulted in the launch of the Dimensity 1000, a flagship-grade SoC with integrated 5G. It is a chip supports dual 5G SIM support with speeds of up to 4.7 Gbps for downloads and up to 2.5Gbps for uploads over 5G frequencies below 6GHz.

Recently, the company has also revealed that it will launch a 7nm 5G chip for low-end phonesThat plan of MediaTek probably placed the company under Samsung's radar.

If ever this collaboration will pan out, 5G should become more mainstream as 5G phones will be more affordable.

Based on the latest data of IDC, Samsung is still the top-selling mobile phone brand in the world.
