PLDT's Smart provides communications support to Taal Volcano volunteers

Smart Communications has extended its assistance to the volunteers helping Filipinos affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.

Smart Communications extends communications support

The PLDT's wireless unit said it provided communications support for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to facilitate the exchange of communication between government agencies for the evacuation, rescue, and relief operations. 

Smart said it had also approached the Philippine Red Cross and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology to give the same assistance. 

For residents, the firm said it would be setting up a FREE charging station at the PLDT Tagaytay Office, General Aguinaldo Highway, Barangay Kaybagal South, Tagaytay City.

Meanwhile, subscribers of Smart residing in areas affected by the Taal Volcano eruption may have a hard time accessing the network. 

Following the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano over the weekend, some areas in Batangas, Cavite and Laguna, may still experience limited mobile signal due to damage to our facilities and/or lack of commercial power, Smart said.

List of affected areas with limited mobile signal:

Batangas - Laurel, Tanauan

Cavite - Alfonso, Amadeo, Indang, Mendez, Silang, Tagaytay

Laguna - Calamba, Canlubang

Smart, however,  assured that it was working closely with the local government units to re-establish communication services.
