Smart boosts satellite services, disaster preparedness efforts with DelNet

PLDT's wireless arm Smart Communications partnered with solutions provider DelNet International Corp. (DelNet) as it seeks to boost its satellite services on land and at sea.

As the maritime industry faces difficulties in communicating with their families given the unavailability of standard mobile systems, Smart, which has been delivering crew-calling solutions to the said industry, is ramping up anew its communication services. 

According to Smart, its deal with DelNet would allow the company to reach more customers and expand its presence on ships of all sizes.

Smart has always been committed to serving the overseas Filipino. This partnership allows us to continue offering most relevant services to Filipinos across oceans so we could help them stay in touch with their loved ones back home, Katrina Luna-Abelarde, President & CEO at PLDT Global  Corp.

DelNet, for its part, has vowed to help Smart in providing communication systems in remote areas across the country during emergencies and calamities, particularly when mobile service is not accessible.

We are confident that Smart and DelNet together can build solutions to better serve Filipino seafarers. Beyond this and in light of seemingly increasing natural disasters affecting the most vulnerable, we are also looking towards developing awareness on the importance of satellite services during those times when communication aid can literally help save lives, added Luna-Abelarde.
