Battle of 2020 Pro devices

Back of P40 Pro

Build/Design - The Huawei P40 Pro sports one of the nicest builds out there. The back panel uses a 3D curved glass back design with a stunning refractive matte finish with scratch and fingerprint smudge resistance.

The frame is made out of a sturdy-looking metal material and the front stars an all-glass Quad-Curve Overflow Display with 3D curves on top, bottom, and sidesBut, there's no mention of scratch resistance on the screen. The entire phone has IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

There's also a more premium version of the P40 Pro, the P40 Pro+ and it uses a Nano-Tech Ceramic material.

OPPO Find X2 Pro has 2 versions in terms of design. First, it has a Ceramic Black version with a new grating texture design made out of composite zirconia. The material used gave it a silky feel with anti-slip and anti-fingerprint characteristics. The other one is made out of Vegan Leather which is waterproof, oil-proof, and resistant to high temperatures, humidity, and general wear-and-tear.

Both come with a punch-hole, but P40 Pro has a bigger pill-shaped design as it houses a lot of sensors there. The two devices also arrived
with IP68 water and dust resistance.

This category is pretty close. Based on Peter's (GIZGUIDE EIC) experience, the P40 Pro is more comfortable to hold. But, the Find X2 Pro has a slight advantage due to its Gorilla Glass 6 tech in front.

Display - The Huawei P40 Pro it has a 6.58-inch 3D curved OLED screen with 2640 x 1200 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and 441 ppi pixel density. It also has Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

OPPO Find X2 Pro has a 6.7-inch 3D curved Gorilla Glass 6 protected Super AMOLED screen with 3168 x 1440 QHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 519 ppi pixel density.

OPPO Find X2 Pro takes a definite lead here with a QHD+ Super AMOLED screen, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support.

Specs - The Huawei P40 Pro has a 2.86GHz Kirin 990 5G octa-core processor with Triple NPU, Mali-G76 MP16 with GPU Turbo, 8GB RAM, 256GB expandable storage, and a 4,200mAh battery with 40W wired SuperCharge, 27W wireless SuperCharge, and 5W Wireless Reverse Charge.

OPPO Find X2 Pro is packed with the 4G version of 2.84GHz Snapdragon 865 octa-core processor, Adreno 650 GPU, 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512GB UFS 3.0 storage, and a 4,260mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 flash charge.

Both devices offer top of the line performance specs. Actual performance are similar as well. Huawei has a higher AI chip, but OPPO's Snapdragon 865 has a better CPU and GPU.

OPPO Find X2 Pro is a bit ahead here due to its faster CPU and GPU, bigger RAM, bigger and faster UFS 3.0 storage, and a faster wired charging solution.

P40 Pro has a 27W wireless SuperCharge, and 5W wireless reverse charging though.

Cameras - Huawei P40 Pro has a Leica quad-camera setup with 50MP f/1.9 RYYB Ultra Vision Wide w/ Full Pixel Octa PD Autofocus, OIS + 40MP f/1.8 SuperSensing Cine + 12MP f/3.4 RYYB 5x Optical Telephoto w/ OIS + ToF 3D Depth Sensing + Color Temperature Sensor + dual-tone LED flash.

It also has a 32MP f/2.2 with AF + IR depth/gesture camera.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro has a triple camera setup with 48MP f/1.7 Sony IMX689 w/ 7P lens, OIS, All Pixel Omnidirectional PDAF + 48MP f/2.2 w/ 6P lens 120-degree ultra-wide-angle, 3cm ultra-macro + 13MP f/3.0 w/ 5P lens, 5x optical zoom + dual-tone LED flash. For selfies, it has a 32MP f/2.4 Sony IMX616 sensor.

Huawei P40 Pro took the lead here with a better quad-camera system with more features and bigger sensors.

For selfies, they both have a 32MP sensor. But, the P40 Pro still offers the better package as it is assisted by an IR camera for the bokeh effect.

Other features - Huawei P40 Pro has WiFi 6 Plus, 4G LTE, 5G, Bluetooth 5.1 LE, OTG, NFC, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, dual-band Galileo, dual-band QZZS, In-Display fingerprint sensor, face unlock, and USB-C. It also has an IR Blaster remote control feature and triple microphones.

The face unlocking tech of Huawei is more secured as its selfie camera is assisted by the IR Depth/Gesture sensor.

OPPO Find X2 Pro has dual-band WiFi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5, OTG, FM Radio, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, In-Display fingerprint sensor, face unlock, stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res audio, triple-mic, USB-C.

The Find X2 Pro in PH doesn't have 5G out of the box. Meanwhile, the P40 Pro is 5G ready.

Both run Android 10. Personally, I slightly prefer OPPO's ColorOS 7.1 skin over the EMUI 10.1 of Huawei. OPPO comes with GMS (Google Mobile Services), Huawei loads with HMS (Huawei Mobile Services).

Huawei P40 Pro advantages - Faster wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, more powerful cameras, better back cameras, nicer selfie cam with different sensors, 5G connectivity, more affordable price tag
OPPO Find X2 Pro - Bigger QHD+ 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, larger RAM, UFS 3.0 storage size, faster USB-C wired charging

Our thoughts

Both are very capable flagship-grade devices in their own right.

OPPO Find X2 Pro comes with the bigger and slightly better display, a bit faster performance, speedier storage, and the newer 65W fast charging solution if you can spare PHP 65,990.
It has a very capable camera system as well.

However, it has no 5G connectivity that will be useful in the near future. The price plays a HUGE factor here as well.

The Huawei P40 Pro is the handset with better AI performance, faster wireless charging, better camera system, more secured face unlock, and the future-ready 5G connectivity at a much lower PHP 50,990 price tag.
