Most of the attention goes to the OnePlus 8 Pro due to its top-of-the-line specifications that can go toe-to-toe with the very best for less. But, we think that the vanilla OnePlus 8 also deserves the spotlight. Here's why.

5 killer features of the new OnePlus 8

1. Smooth 90Hz big screen, compact design - The OnePlus 8 boasts a large 6.55-inch 3D curved display with a tall 20:9 cinematic screen aspect ratio. It also comes with crisp enough FHD+ 2400 x 1080 resolution, tiny bezels, and a small punch-hole for a more immersive viewing experience.
Gorgeous display

It also has a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and DisplayMate A+ rating, and SGS Eye Care Display Certification. It isn't as good as 8 Pro screen, but it doesn't mean that it isn't a good quality display anymore.

The handset is also quite compact. It is just 160.2 x 72.9 mm big and 8.0 mm thick. That's considered as small for a phone with a big 6.55-inch screen.

It also has a comfortable heft at 180 grams.

2. Powerful Snapdragon 865 SoC - At the core of this phone is the 2.84GHz 7nm Snapdragon 865 octa-core processor with Adreno 650 GPU. This is the most powerful chipset found on Android devices.

This means that the OnePlus 8 is just as fast as the OnePlus 8 Pro and other more expensive high-end phones.

3. Capable overall specs - OnePlus paired the device with large 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128GB UFS 3.0 storage, and 4,300mAh large battery with USB-C 30W Warp Charge 30 fast charging support.

8GB RAM is more than enough to handle most of the tasks along with multitasking with ease. 128GB storage is large and it is using the newer-gen UFS 3.0 storage. UFS 3.0 has faster read/write speeds than previous-gen mobile storage solutions.

OnePlus also paired it with a triple-camera setup consisting of a 48MP f/1.75 Sony IMX586 w/ OIS, EIS, a 16MP f/2.2 w/ 116-degree ultra-wide-angle, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro + dual-tone LED flash.

This device also has the same 16MP f/2.0 snapper found on the high-end OnePlus 8 Pro.

Also, since the SD865 SoC uses a higher-end chipset, expect it to perform better than the OnePlus 7T Pro with the same primary camera.

4. Future-proof 5G support - Did I mention 5G? Yes, this phone comes with 5G connectivity. Thanks to its use of the Qualcomm X55 5G modem.

This means that the phone is future-proof. As we all know, the era of 5G is fast approaching. It has way faster speeds than 4G.

5. The affordable price tag for the specs - So far, the OnePlus 8 Pro is the most affordable official phone in the Philippines with the flagship 2.84GHz 7nm Snapdragon 865 octa-core processor and 5G connectivity. Not bad at PHP 35,990.
