Canon EOS R5 records 8K/30 RAW with Dual Pixel AF

Canon continues to tease by revealing bits and pieces of the upcoming EOS R5 full-frame mirrorless camera. On April 20, DPreview reports that the yet to be fully announced camera from Canon will capture and record up to 8K 30 frames per second internally in RAW or 10-bit 4:2:2 footage from the full-width of the sensor with Dual Pixel Autofocus.

It can also record DCI 4K with a resolution of 8192 x 4320 with a ratio of 1.9:1 instead of the usual 16:9. The 4K recording extends up to 4K at 120fps at DCI 4096 x 2160 in either 10-bit 4:2:2 or C-Log HDR PQ. lastly, the 4K at 60fps can be recorded internally or thru HDMI.

Canon has yet to mention the data rates (in bitrate) nor has the company mention recording time limits.

Recording that 8K/4K footage will be demanding for storage and the EOS R5 will offer dual card slots where one is CFexpress and the other is UHS-II.

These video specs are impressive but given that the EOS R5 will come in a similar side body as the original EOS R, how will the battery life and the cooling be like?

There are more questions now until Canon makes a full launch of the EOS R5.

What do you guys think?
