For the first time ever

The report is based on China-based CINNO Research. According to the report, HiSilicon shipped 22.21 million smartphone processors in the first quarter of 2020. The semiconductor unit also increased its market share from 24.3 percent in the first quarter of 2019 to 43.9 percent in Q1 2020.

CINNO Said that Qualcomm fell to 48.1 percent to just 32.8 percent.

Huawei's growth could be attributed to the US blacklist. It made Huawei focus more on China to increase its smartphone market share at the expense of local rival Xiaomi and OPPO.

Meanwhile, the Coronavirus outbreak has hurt Qualcomm. Qualcomm supplies chips to Huawei's domestic rival.

The report also shows
Apple’s market share for chips remained basically flat. Like Huawei, Apple designs its own chips for its smartphones.

Huawei designs Kirin chips for smartphones, servers, and more. They also have the Balong 5000, a multi-mode 5G modem.
